![]() Wyeth’s work, particularly his illustrations for classic children’s books for Charles Scribner’s Sons were as essential to American children and childhood as Dr. It’s easy, in this context, to see why N.C. To him, for at least a brief moment, nothing, not even an iPad, could compare. A young boy in the gallery thrilled to these 100-year-old images that are as stirring and energetic now as when they first appeared in print. In a nod to our area, a large oil Rip Van Winkle cover gets a plum position on the wall. Bare-knuckle tavern brawlers, tricorner-hatted patriots, knights with swords drawn, the temples and pavilions of Phoenicia it’s all there. They are portals into worlds of adventure and delight. ![]() The Wyeth family has been a fixture in American visual art for well over a century since Newell Convers Wyeth’s first commission for the Saturday Evening Post in 1903 and the curtain rises with a room in the gallery given over entirely to his work. ![]()
